Daniel Gothard was born in 1968 in Meriden in the West Midlands of England. He gained a CertHE and Masters degree in creative writing and has worked as a producer, private tutor, a journalist and in bookselling for 20 years.

His award-nominated short stories have appeared in publications in the UK, The Republic of Ireland and the USA. His most recent work, The Quietist (Roundfire Books, August 2025) was nominated for The Booker Prize 2025 and The James Tait Black Memorial Prize.
