Daniel David Gothard was born in 1968 in Meriden in the West Midlands of England. He gained a CertHE and Masters degree in creative writing and worked as a journalist, a tutor, a film producer and in bookselling for upwards of 20 years. His prize nominated short stories have appeared in publications all across the world, namely The Republic of Ireland, the UK and the USA.

He was first published in 2008 with his book Relax and Swing. Since then he’s been published 8 times across multiple publishers and throughout most of the world with his most recent book, The Quietist, being published in August of 2025. The Quietist has, among other things, been nominated for the Booker prize.
